Personal Opinion : There's a reason why this manga is on the top of my list and outshines the others and it comes from the realistic originality of the plot. Manga's tend to get real sometimes and Yagate Kimi ni Naru is one of those manga. They raise questions for the readers that leave them thinking twice in real life. It doesn't follow the cliche pattern of the usual shoujo-ai yuri manga but creates a truly different relationship between 2 girls. Silverman, Rebecca (January 1, 2017). "Bloom into You GN 1". Anime News Network. Archived from the original on April 15, 2023 . Retrieved April 15, 2023. The manga was relaunched as a full-color webtoon by Kadokawa Future Publishing's Tatesuku Comic imprint. [39] It began serialization on BookWalker August 11, 2021. In the final volume, Nakatani wanted to write a complete ending to the story which would leave readers feeling that they had seen all that was needed to be seen, make the nature of Yuu and Touko's feelings unambiguously clear, and assure that their relationship would last. [10] [34] She wanted to avoid giving the impression that Yuu and Touko were destined to be together, instead emphasizing that they had freely chosen a relationship after they both changed and were able to love each other. [23] [10] The 44th chapter, in which Yuu and Touko have sex, was considered necessary, as Nakatani felt that it was best to not omit that aspect of their feelings for each other. [10] In the final epilogue chapter set three years after the previous chapter following a timeskip, their relationship is no longer a secret from most of their friends, which Nakatani thought was better as she wanted them to be happy at the story's conclusion. [10] Touko also continues pursuing her acting career, which Nakatani decided as she "didn't want to condemn" the time in Touko's life when she was emulating her sister. [10] Nakatani cited the works of Satoshi Mizukami, and in particular his manga Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer, as an influence on the final chapter. [10] Anime adaptation [ edit ] Planning [ edit ] Besides it being in the yuri genre, Nakatani had not decided on any story details before accepting Kusunoki's offer. She developed many ideas for different plots and characters, almost all of which were ultimately scrapped, except for Touko's character design. [23] The editor-in-chief suggested a "secret love," which Nakatani noticed was common to the yuri genre in stories where the characters had to keep their same-sex relationship secret due to both being girls. [23] Nakatani did not want to focus the narrative's attention on the social challenges of girl-girl relationships, as she felt it would be too simple and was more interested in exploring the characters' personal flaws. [26] Thus, she thought of a twist on the idea, wherein rather than keeping their love secret from others, the drama would come from two girls keeping their love secret from each other. This became the impetus for what would become Yuu and Touko's romance story. [23]

for some more Shoujo Ai relationships to exist within the anime/manga medium, there is no real meaning to anything that takes place in this story. However, her world is turned upside down when she witnesses Touko Nanami, the student council president, calmly rejecting a boy's confession. Motivated by Touko's courage, Yuu turns to her for guidance. But when Touko confesses her love for Yuu, she is both bewildered and exhilarated. Nio, Nakatani (3 January 2017). Bloom into You Vol. 1. National Geographic Books. ISBN 978-1626923539. The characters don't offer anything interesting either. One half of the duo of protagonists is the "I must be like my sister" trope which is definitely nothing new while the personality of the other half is not really more than "being in love with that girl". Prior to creating Bloom Into You, Nakatani self-published various doujinshi works which featured girl-girl pairings of Touhou characters. Although she had not intended these works to be of the yuri genre, they were received as such by readers. This led her to be interested in producing a romance story featuring an unambiguous love between girls. A Dengeki Daioh editor approached Nakatani at a doujinshi convention, proposing that she draw a yuri series for the magazine, an offer which she accepted.

Bloom has a great story, with a very good storyline. The story develops a little fifty-fifty. There are some clichés, but nothing that will destroy the story. In general, yuri has had a rather mixed history, and a myriad of series that don’t take themselves seriously and/or suffer from poorly-written characters and narratives have made the rounds in the past few years. Thankfully, Yagate Kimi ni Naru (Bloom into You) avoids these issues, placing well-written characters into an engaging and thoughtfully crafted narrative to create a moving coming-of-age story. To date, eight tankōbon volumes have been released under the Dengeki Comics label. It is licensed for release in English by Seven Seas Entertainment. While waiting for Touko, Sayaka has a brief run-in with her ex-girlfriend, managing to say her piece to her. Later, as the student council prepare to take part in a competitive relay event, Yuu spends some time with Sayaka to hear her thoughts on both the play and Touko. On a rainy day, Yuu ends up walking home with Touko, who becomes wary of Yuu showing affection towards her. Also, let’s not forget that this is a yuri and shoujo ai manga. There’s going to be plenty of LGBTQ+ youth reading this. And seeing Yuu and Touko at this point of their relationship could be very validating. This isn’t a watered-down depiction of a girl-girl relationship that’s left ambiguous.Bloom Into You revolves around a freshman high school student named Yuu Koito. Having always loved shoujo manga, Yuu waits for the day she gets a love confession, hoping to experience all the feelings which are described in shoujo mangas. However, when Yuu’s classmate from junior high confesses his feelings for her, Yuu feels unexpectedly and disappointingly hollow. Following this experience, Yuu becomes convinced that she is only capable of understanding romance as a concept, not feeling it first-hand.

Plot/Story : The plot itself is significant and very unpredictable which is an element you rarely find in manga nowadays. The originality is the best part of this manga in my opinion. It revolves around 2 girls with very different approach to 'love' and has very different ways of defining it. Whereby one has achieved the ability to love and another has not yet*. As the story progress we see the main protagonist making agonizing decisions questioning herself if she should allow her feelings to flow or to put a stop to it. If she falls in love she will lose her partner. But if she keep her feelings bottled up she would still be with her partner but not be able to express anything. This puts a strain on their relationship and raises questions on whether to suppress her feelings or not. Heart-wrenching and painful to read but very immersive.I rate 10/10 Nakatani and Kusunoki wanted to make the characters' emotions understandable even to readers who may not be able to relate to them. [25] [32] [29] This was particularly important for the story's female characters to be enjoyable to Dengeki Daioh's shōnen demographic. [25] They tried to not shy away from emotionally complex characters, believing that if they were depicted successfully, it would lead to a more fulfilling story. [25] [29] [32] Kusunoki said that this was a challenge, but felt that Nakatani was capable of fulfilling it. [32] The anime adaptation of Yagate Kimi ni Naru is set to begin on October 5th, 2018. A preview was released in June 2018. It is licensed for release in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa, the Netherlands, Scandinavia, Spain, Portugal, and Latin America by Sentai Filmworks. Retrieved April 10, 2023.Now, it’s time to get into some of the more subjective ways the manga is better than the anime. And first up is the art. The panel screenshots I’ve included in this review don’t do the manga justice. There are some amazing panels with amazing art. And the rest looks good too.
