About this deal

Made with Italian juniper berries and orris root, Spanish almonds and lemons, grains of paradise from West Africa, and Chinese licorice, Bombay Sapphire is the product of a 1761 gin distillery founded by Thomas Dakin in Warrington, England. The London Dry Gin, spotted easily because of its distinct, bright blue bottle, is aromatic and crisp, and holds up delightfully in a martini. Gin has a pine taste from the juniper berries, which are its signature ingredient. However, the prominence of the pine taste varies depending on the style of gin and the botanicals that are added during distillation. Fruity, aromatic gins are smoother and sweeter than a classic dry gin.

London Dry Gin: The old guard brands mostly distill London Dry-style gin in the UK, although it does not actually have a geographical indicator. The main rules of this designation are that juniper must be the dominant flavor (as it is for all gin) and botanicals must flavor the gin during distillation, with no flavor or color added afterwards. Brands like Beefeater and Tanqueray are classics for a reason, but the world of gin has expanded enormously over the past 20 years as new distilleries tinker with the formula. One of my favorite ways to enjoy Uncle Val’s Botanical Gin is in a Martini. Nicely complimented by Vermouth, it’s best served up with a twist.Distilled gin starts out the same way as London Dry Gin, but flavours can be added afterwards, while cold-compounded gins infuse a neutral spirit with botanicals with no further distilling. Ableforth’s Bathtub Gin, which infuses a base spirit of gin with botanicals, is a good example of when this works. Developed after World War II, to meet the growing demand for single malt whiskies, the Lomond still was an experimental design that crossed a column and a pot still. It was created in 1955 by chemical engineer, Alistair Cunningham, and draftsman, Arthur Warren, to be a "one-stop-shop" with the ability to make a variety of whiskies. When I was writing this article, I was sent a bottle of a new Indian gin, Greater Than. ‘When we started off on this journey, we distilled almost every spice, herb, fruit and flower that we could get our hands on,’ says the gin’s founder Anand Virmani. ‘Each distillate was marked and kept on shelves. We would then put on our creative hats and bring together flavours we thought might work together. Some worked. Many didn’t.’ The creation process took two years. The Botanist is a fine choice for a Gin and Tonic. GinBoss does advise not to overpower the gin’s flavor with too much or too flavorful a tonic. Taste the gin on its own and decide which tonic will enhance not replace flavor. Take it in steps. The Botanist Martini Classic gin base supported by more than a dozen locally foraged Irish plants such as yarrow, daisies, watermint and woodruff. This is rather like lying on a summer hillside – a combination of sweet gorse notes, aromatic grasses and lemon balm. Complex and dry. Alc 41% After almost 3 years of extensive experimentation at our farm, we have meticulously combined four craft methods of flavour extraction, united by a secret modern twist to capture the best flavour experience for you. While there’s no doubting that ‘exotic’ doesn’t necessarily equal ‘better’, it’s also true that the explosion of styles and flavours has created an amazing choice. Whether you like punchy juniper or sweet citrus flavours, perfumed flowers or exotic spice notes there really is a style out there for everybody. ‘That’s the purpose of gin,’ says Beefeater’s Desmond Payne. ‘To be exciting.’
