About this deal

Jonathan Drori, ambassadeur van het WWF, neemt zijn lezers mee op een boeiende botanische wereldreis. I could go into detail about several of them but this is a book in which every page needs to be investigated, read, digested and considered. In his follow-up to the bestselling Around the World in 80 Trees , Jonathan Drori takes another trip across the globe, bringing to life the science of plants by revealing how their worlds are intricately entwined with our own history, culture and folklore.

The entries for every plant not only give the general information like the physical description but also historical context and interesting tidbits about each respective plant about its relationship with humans.I definitely love having these three books in my collection (the 3rd one, the one about birds, wasn't written by this author but was produced in the same way by the publisher so I consider them a series) and hope there will be more (about other animal families, for example). If you read extensively on many subjects, then here's another fascinating book to add to your collection - you'll love this one. Op haar kleurrijke prenten, soms paginagroot, zie je zowel het geheel als knappe details van de betreffende planten. Anyway, the author of this book seems just as enthusiastic about plants as I am and is very much involved in trying to save as many as possible despite current challenges such as habitat loss. And this would not be a complete review without a mention of the lavish and fabulous illustrations provided by Lucille Clerc. Everybody who has the slightest interest in plants - and people - and wonders why we need to conserve botanical biodiversity should read this book -- Nigel Chaffey ― Botany.

He is a Fellow of the Linnean Society and the Zoological Society of London, and a former documentary filmmaker with the BBC. I bought this as a Christmas Gift for my mum who is crazy about Candles, Flowers, Smellies and Chocolates.

Ultimately, it was informative and fun at times, but I felt it lacked the focus of Around the World in 80 Trees, which I loved. She graduated with a DSAA in Visual Communication from Olivier de Serres in Paris, and set up her studio after graduating from Central Saint Martins in London with an MA in Communication Design. Op het einde geeft Jonathan Drori de lezers nog handige tips om op een nieuwe manier naar planten te kijken, om je bewondering aan te wakkeren. The descriptions are written with such passion and beauty, brief but densely packed with information about the plant's history, as well as things like relevance to science and art, or just quirky anecdotes. Random facts can be fun, but not when there is a lot of anthropomorphisms going around, misunderstandings of science and especially ecology, biogeography, and morphology.
