About this deal

There is a headphone jack to practice peacefully and this jack also doubles as the main output to connect with speakers and amplifiers. The noise you hear via headphones is likely because you’re using headphones with lower impedance (earbuds? You can use a USB cableto connect this instrument's USB port to your smartphone, tablet, or computer, and use the B2 as a MIDI keyboard to play an external sound module. The practice features are pretty handy and allow you upload your own tracks and slow them down at will. All I wish is that Korg should have included a simple LCD display with the update because it will be hard to tell what sound is active and what tempo the metronome is currently set.

Korg includes a Partner Mode on the B2, which splits the keyboard into two halves, each having the same key range. Being in love with music for as far as he can remember, Lucas started this blog as the “ go-to”place for the most accurate and detailed information about the world of music. The Korg B2 is clearly a vast improvement over its somewhat lacklustre predecessor, bringing 12 well-voiced tones and a comfortable key action to anyone looking to make their piano-playing maiden voyage. It is an app for iOS, and it has a high-quality library of sounds that you can plug it into the USB to Host port. For example, the Italian grand triggers 3 samples per note, which is pretty impressive for a budget digital piano. Also available is the B2N, which is equipped with the same functionality as the B2 but features a lighter-touch keyboard. Although Korg hasn’t focused primarily on digital pianos, its extensive experience in instrument manufacturing guarantees that their products always have a certain level of polish and quality.

Headphones come in very handy when you want to practice in private, focusing solely on your playing and not disturbing others nearby. What you’ll lack a little here though, is a deep understanding of the theory of music which we all know is absolutely vital if you plan to study seriously. The included software – Scoove, Korg Module LE and the Korg Gadget LE – make this model good for piano learning, as do the built-in metronome.

The FP-10 uses Roland’s PHA-4 Standard keyboard, which is the same keys featured up to their midrange FP-60, which costs many times more. These criticisms were pretty widespread too, so Korg has taken most of them into account when designing the B2, B2SP, and B2N. If that's you, then you needn't worry about the B2, as it most definitely delivers on the piano front. The only minor annoyance was the lack of onboard speakers, which was a deal breaker for most players without access to an amp or external speakers.

We should also discuss the B2N, which uses a redesigned variation of the B2’s action with some weights removed. However, there is no LCD screen found on the Korg B2 which is unfortunate as it would have been so much more user-friendly to know which piano voice is currently on. The graded weighted keys feel natural and responsive, the built-in speakers are surprisingly good, and the sustain pedal is very well made.
