The Goodreads Libra Goodreads Librarians are volunteers who help ensure the accuracy of information about books and authors in the Goodreads' catalog. Then he’d move to a new city on a new island within the Seventeen Isles and do it all over again. I really enjoyed the contrast between Theydan (the villain) and Kearan. The villain is trying to control Sorinda, saying he's looking out for her interests and she'll want this when she stops and thinks about it. By contrast, Kearan always gives Sorinda the space to work out what she wants. By having Kearan's actions oppose Theydan's, it was an effective way of highlighting just how toxic such behaviour is, and how insidious.

I absolutely loved the first two books in this series, so I was really excited to read the third installment. Vengeance of the Pirate Queen did not let down. There is something about the way these books are making that make me forget I am reading. I also like how the book manages to be overtly feminist without being TOO didactic about it, a balance YA books in particular rarely achieve. This book is killer! Literally. Fans of DAUGHTER OF THE PIRATE KING will love this new journey with Sorinda as the main character. She’s an assassin, Captain, and all around awesome pirate. I hold perfectly still and watch as Vordan stretches out his bad leg. Alosa once used her siren song to force him to jump from a two-story height. I’ll bet he thinks about her every time it stiffens from the cold. He leans over to rub at the muscles near his knee before standing. He takes a drink from something at his nightstand, puts out the lantern, then sits on the bed. I could do it now, I suppose. Just roll over, grab my dagger from its sheath at my side, and slice his throat.

Thank you Pushkin Press and NetGalley for providing me an e-arc in exchange for an honest review. My review is my own and not influenced by others. I throw the doors open wide, sight my mark, and fling my blade. The dagger lands true, embedding in his throat. I don’t retrieve it just yet. Time is precious now. I absolutely adore this series, and whether you’ve read or haven’t read the first two books in the Pirate Queen series, you can dive straight into Sorinda’s story. Be warned there are spoilers for the first two books but, if you can’t wait dive in, although I recommend reading them first.

The Plague has left a population divided between Elites and Ordinaries—those who have powers and those who don’t; now, an Ordinary teen fights for her life. It's as easy and fast to read as the original duology but I'd would've liked more of the romance aspect to develop. I also would've liked if the artifacts would've been a bit more explored. That part seemed a bit rushed. I also wouldn't have said no to more Alosa and Riden but Sorinda was a great main character so I can live without it. Sadly, I really dislike the cover.Joined by a distractingly handsome mercenary and a young scholar with extensive knowledge of the world’s known magics, Ziva and her sister set out on a quest to keep the sword safe until they can find a worthy wielder or a way to destroy it entirely. I am beyond excited to be returning to this world. I always intended to write this book, as I purposely left things unfinished and open ended with Kearan and Sorinda. My editor and I initially discussed writing this book for the ten year anniversary of DAUGHTER OF THE PIRATE KING, but the sales team wanted it sooner, so here we are! Her crew and herself must navigate through treacherous waters, and they accidentally awaken the King of the Undersea, who summons an army of undead soldiers from the depth. He’ll do anything to claim what he belies is his and Sorinda must do everything in her power to survive, With the infuriating Kearan by her side, she manages to keep her head, and her life, while trying to save the world. Will she and her crew manage to save the world or will she face a fate worse than death: becoming an undead queen controlled by the King of the Undersea himself? I’ll guess you’ll have to read the book to find out but it’ll be worth the read, promise. Sorinda is a FABULOUS heroine. Her transformation from uncaring, unfeeling assassin to someone who'd allow Kearan into her life was achieved slowly and believably. If you're into the grumpy/sunshine trope (with a grumpy heroine), this absolutely fits. Kearan is the ultimate supportive hero; I usually like heroes with a bit more of an edge, but he gets some good lines and did grow on me. He's definitely perfect for Sorinda. One of the reasons I never got into Throne of Glass is because - even at age 11/12 - I felt very strongly that any character who was billed to me as a cutthroat assassin should, at some point, actually be a cutthroat assassin. This particular book opens with 18-year-old Sorinda Veshtas murdering an entire house of people, so we can safely say she's got cutthroat assassination in spades.

I extend my arm until it is only inches from Vordan’s left ankle. My fingers tiptoe ever closer, until my pointer finger is directly behind his heel. It would be so easy to slice his Achilles tendon. He’d never walk again. Instead, I draw circles against the wood slats on the floor, allowing Vordan to think the last thoughts he will ever have. Eventually, he sighs, pulls his legs onto the bed, and fidgets with the covers. I liked the plot, the high seas adventure, getting to see a little bit of Alosa again, the themes and everything in between. The secondary characters convinced me! I was happy to find some old acquaintances again, including little Roslyn. I love the found family that is created among the group, as well as the interactions and dialogues between the various characters! The lad can’t be more than twelve. He’s all height with no muscles to his limbs. He’s fallen in with a bad crowd, but even I don’t murder children. No, but it was probably Miss Nyles coming by the kitchens. Probably turned tail the second she spotted us.” He should have known better. He should have kept running after he managed to free himself during the scuffle between the land king and former pirate king. Might have had a nice, long life that way.
